This is a fossilized atlas vertebra bone that once belonged to a mastodon. The American mastodon roamed North and Central America until their extinction at the end of the Pleistocene ca. 10,000 to 11,000 years ago. They ranged from 7 to 10 feet in height at the shoulder and weighed over 11 tons.
