Cotton Sampling KnifeEntry/Object ID
L1998.10.1Description
A cotton sampling knife is used by buyers to cut into bales to determine the grade and fiber quality of cotton. The knife seen here has a full tang with a fixed blade and triple rivets. This particular blade pattern is a hybrid between a cotton sampling knife and a sheep foot knife. This allows the knife to be multi-purposed, but the owner of this bladed used it mainly for cotton sampling. These knives are still used today.Location
