1998.1.19Description
This architectural feature is an outhouse, which resides next to the last home "of" Blues musician “Sleepy” John Estes. An outhouse is a small structure, usually constructed from wood, which covers a toilet. These outdoor restrooms are always separate from a main building. Outhouses were in use in cities of developed countries well into the second half of the twentieth century and are still used in rural areas around the world in the present day. The outhouse is only used during the daytime because of the inability to see at night. During the nighttime, a chamber pot was used in the house and emptied in the morning.Location
