Small die-cut paper sticker for Sam Church's campaign for President of the United Mine Workers in 1982 against Richard Trumka. Design includes his signature as only "Sam", as how he was commonly referenced in campaign materials at the time.

Context

Sam Church was born in Matewan, West Virginia before moving to Virginia and Baltimore, Maryland. He became Vice President of the UMWA in 1977 during Arnold Miller's presidency, becoming president of the union in 1979 when Miller resigned. Church ran for presidency against Richard Trumka in 1982 and was defeated.
