Name/Title

Mill Creek Gap: 46LG200, Archaeological Site

Entry/Object ID

MCG.46LG200.06

Description

Partial results of 2006 dig at Mill Creek Gap in the Crooked Creek Area, a defensive position. This collection includes six (6) casings, two (2) cartridges, and two (2) shotgun brass heads.

Context

The Mill Creek area encompasses a major gap in the northernmost part of the battlefield, and one of the most heavily fortified defensive positions. Because of this, evidence suggests that little combat was seen here, with offensive actions focused in other areas to the south. A large number of Logan deputies and around 600 volunteers from McDowell County were positioned here under the command of Capt. Corley.
