CCN3.46LG212.06Description
Fifteen (15) items are in this collection, from a total of 53 collected at this site. Analysis of the total collection indicates a range of calibers that suggests a long-range fire position was established here as a defensive site.
Items included: 111, 119, 116, 121, 123, 124, 132-134, 140, 141, 149, 156, 158, 161Context
"This site is located northeast of 46LG215, and north of the Crooked Creek Gap. It is about 75 by 25 meters in extent, and is situated on the north slope of a descending ridgeline. It faces another of the headwater tributaries of Craddock Fork. A total of 53 artifacts, all shell casings, were collected from this site. Apparently, little or no incoming fire was directed at the shooters here as no spent bullets were located. A total of 11 different types of shell casings were documented at this site, including five of the eight .45-70 casings for all sites in this survey. All six of the .250-3000 casings recorded by the survey were found here. Of course, one individual could easily have shot all the shells of each caliber. Along with the two .22 High Powers and three .30-06's, the .250-3000's constitute long range weaponry. The other 42 casings are from shorter range guns."
