Frank Keeney, personal effects folding pocketknife, folding straight razor, pocket watch, poetry book Although he only completed the 6th grade in school, Frank Keeney believed that self education was crucial to improving the lot of his family and the miners. In her autobiography, Mother Jones writes of meeting Keeney as a youngster, “I gave him a book one Sunday and I said to him, ‘Go up under the trees and read. Leave the pool room alone. Read and study and find out how to help your fellow miners.’ And he did it.” This book of poetry was carried and read by Keeney during the strike while he and his family lived in the tent colony at Eskdale. collection of Chuck Keeney
