Context

"This, along with the South Crest of Blair Mountain, is the most intensively defended site studied by our survey. It is a hilltop situated just north of the Crooked Creek Gap, and is historically documented to have had a machine gun as well as a large number of defenders. The hilltop consists of three promontories separated by two saddles." (Ayers team, 2006)
