Description

Modern coal miner's helmet, hand-painted orange top with retro-reflective stickers. Interior lace-in liner.

Use

Underground coal mining. This is a "low vein" style helmet, meaning the crown clearance is closer to the head for work in low ceiling areas. Also known as a "tiger stripe" helmet, a reference to the striations in the material from the fiberglass manufacture process.

Context

This helmet belonged to Alfred Steele. Two modern miner's helmets bookend the exit to the museum.
