Description

Wheeler writes to say that he will try to get slides made by Bachelor when he was traveling for the USDA, has written to "his chief Detwille in Washington". If he gets them, will send them to Elizabeth since her talk comes first. Talks about his son, Dick, in Alabama. Discusses birds eating holly berries(a problem for growers), thinks that mice and chipmunks may also take them for seed. Starlings are the worst. The everbearing trees, St. Ann and St. Mary, are left alone by the birds so they may not like those. Red squirrels also take them. Hurricane has badly damaged some trees. There has been a lot of interest in hollies--people want big trees, price not a factor.

Note

Wilfrid is misspelled as "Wilfred" on this typewritten copy of the original letter. This was brought to the archives' attention by Wheeler's great-granddaughter Emily Wheeler. Original letters were then found after the copy was accessioned.
