Nov. 9: in which Elizabeth describes the holly committee meeting at the estate of Judge Brown in Locust. Estate has a dip full of natural growth holly. Has moved various trees from there around his grounds. Fifty or more 6' to 20' trees. Fine display of native holly. They also went out to Sandy Hook to look at hollies, an inspection "strictly limited by the military authorities", then the key dinner at the Rumson Club. Judge Brown organized it well, asked everyone what they thought significance of meeting was for them. Experiment station will write an instructive circular for gardening and produce a set of kodachrome slides for lectures on holly. Talk of Holly Society along lines of Rose Society. Try to get law passed for protecting holly in NJ.
