Description
Oct. 18: Wheeler writes that his hurricane losses also somewhat offset by rainfall. Ponds still not full--problem for bogs. Asks if he might be included in 1st meeting of NJ Holly Committee. Fortunately, he has a good stock of "Emily" since army destroyed original tree. Trees injured by hurricane. Son Dick not yet at Fort Dix for medical reasons. Agrees that cut holly should be from one tree so that it looks uniform.
Oct. 20: Elizabeth says NJ Committee would be happy to have Wheeler at meeting. Explains where Locust is and how he might get there.
Oct. 27: Wheeler writes to say he can't come due to 'unexpected things" to do with hurricane (handwritten).
Oct. 29: More complete letter explaining that he has had to help people with hurricane damage to prevent scams. Hollies badly affected by salt spray. Son Dick is at Dix but not allowed out.

Wilfrid is misspelled as "Wilfred" on this typewritten copy of the original letter. This was brought to the archives' attention by Wheeler's great-granddaughter Emily Wheeler. Original letters were then found after the copy was accessioned.
