Description

Wheeler writes about labor problems--describes the progress of the hollies Elizabeth sent him. Says he has managed to get new wood cuttings from a "bunching type" holly by hand pruning young plants doing well--John Wisk (Phila) wants plants for Swarthmore College (arboretum). Elizabeth writes back wishing that they were able to "talk holly" more often rather than writing. Good crop of blueberries, lack of labor for cranberry picking (war?), discusses the transplanting of varieties noted. She sets out some interesting theories on berry bearing male plants; wants to visit in fall. Wheeler mentions new variety "Firecracker", will send some of his hollies to John Wisk. Cranberries on Cape a week early. Elizabeth writes about "Firecracker", cranberries also early in NJ. Mentions Pauline Houck.
