Letters Between Elizabeth White and Wilfrid WheelerEntry/Object ID
1984.3.20Description
Wheeler writes that a friend wants to plant 100 hollies in Wareham, MA. Mentions Bartlett Tree--enclosing directions for a NY order that, apparently, Elizabeth will fill--surprised that Elizabeth's hollies have had winter damage, his have not. Mentions holly article in American Nurseryman again. Elizabeth writes that she is sending him hollies--explains that winter damage was only to hollies in close set pots, not enough protection or sides of pots, roots killed. Discusses holly article in Horticulture, agrees with Wheeler that they are in danger of having too many named varieties.
Wheeler has received his hollies and planted them and has had a lot of inquiries; feels they could sell "thousands". Elizabeth writes to say that she is glad hollies arrived in good shape. She had planned to write more for the American Nurseryman but is slow.Collection
