Description

This is a series of six letters. Wilfrid Wheeler sends Elizabeth various cuttings from different growers. He notes which ones have promise to survive harsh winters. Elizabeth responds about their arrival, condition, etc. Cuttings from two Wilson trees, the Allen tree and Newport English holly. Wheeler mentions oak leaves and leaf mould from oak forest--feels it is best fertilizer for hollies. At the end: Ilex aquifolium is a European holly so not all the cuttings referred to above are American holly (Ilex opaca) per se.

Note

Wilfrid is misspelled as "Wilfred" on this typewritten copy of the original letter. This was brought to the archives' attention by Wheeler's great-granddaughter Emily Wheeler. Original letters were then found after the copy was accessioned.
