June 19: Wheeler apologized for neglecting correspondence, but it has been a bad time on the farm--no rain. Hopes her hollies did not have winter burn as his did. Most are coming back. Sends $1.00 for Pine Barrens gentian plants he would like to try. Late frost also killed blueberries. Remarks that spring is a nightmare for farmers. Postcard says he intended to ask whether she had Sabbatia (June 23).
June 29: Elizabeth realizes it was a sad spring in New England from her contacts with cranberry growers. Her hollies did not get much winter burn. Good blueberry crop. She returns his $1.00 because she no longer has P.B. gentians for sale. Has given up "little things" due to labor shortage but will send seed in fall. Describes the two kinds of Sabbatia that grow in the pines.
