Black and white postcard of John Greenleaf Whittier. A portrait of Whittier as an older man wearing a black jacket, white shirt, and black tie is in the center of the postcard. The portrait is framed with illustrations of flowers and leaves. At the very bottom, text reads [JOHN GREENLEAF WHITTIER / BORN DEC. 17, 1807. DIED SEPT. 7, 1892.]. Handwritten correspondence is on both the left and right sides of the portrait. On the back of the postcard, there is an American flag cancellation stamp and a postmark from Haverhill, Massachusetts dated July 2, 1905 at 7 PM. There is residue in the upper right corner where a stamp once was. The postcard is addressed to Mrs. W. E. Garfield in Sudbury, Massachusetts.
