PostcardDescription
Colored postcard of the Whittier Birthplace and John Greenleaf Whittier with an excerpt from his poem "Snowbound." The eastern side of the Birthplace is seen in the center left of the postcard and painted red. The building is surrounded by snow-covered trees and snow on the ground. In the upper left corner, there is an oval portrait of Whittier as an older man wearing a black jacket, white shirt, and black tie. Text underneath the portrait reads [JOHN GREENLEAF WHITTIER.]. Text at the very top of the postcard reads ["Snowbound" Whittier's Birthplace, Haverhill, Mass.] In a cream-colored box in the top right corner of the image, the excerpt reads ["All day the gusty north wind bore / The loosening drift its breath before, / Low circling round its southern zone, / The sun through dazzling snow-mist shone"]. White handwritten text in the bottom right corner reads [19809]. On the back of the postcard, there is a publisher and printer's mark and a generic stamp box. The postcard has not been used and there is an inscription alongside the inventory number.Collection
