1955 Peters Cartridge Divsion advertisement

Entry/Object ID

TAFC001A0004

Secondary Title

"When you want POWER...you want PETERS 'High Velocity'"

Description

This is an advertisement from a 1955 sporting periodical for Peters High Velocity shotgun shells. Peters was a brand then owned by Remington Arms, and DuPont is also named. This is a result of DuPont acquiring a controlling interest in Remington during the Great Depression. The artwork depicts a gobbler gliding through the pines, with a hunter in the background trying to draw a bead on it. The quote credited to a Florida guide, Horace Barnhill, is, "These wary birds give you one shot and then they're gone." While the wild turkey restoration was only just beginning at the time, limiting the number of hunters who might pursue turkeys, those words ring true yet today.
