With a foreword written by Brian Lovett, 2025 recipient of NWTF's Tom Kelly Communicator of the Year Award, and a special contribution by outdoor writer Larry Dablemont. Bad Birds is a compilation of the "Bad Birds" column written by Spencer for Turkey & Turkey Hunting Magazine. Consisting of over 40 distinct and entertaining chapters, each a previously published story about a turkey the author tangled with over his many years of hunting this amazing game bird.
Jim Spencer has been in the writing trade since selling his first magazine article (at age 14) to Fur-Fish-Game magazine. Five decades later, he is still active in the business and has written more than 2,000 magazine articles, 2,000 newspaper columns, hundreds of e-articles for various outdoor websites, and five books: The Mink Manual (1990), Turkey Hunting Digest (2003), A Young Hunter's Guide to Waterfowling and Conservation (2004), Guide to Trapping (2007), and Bad Birds (2011). He has won scores of excellence-in-craft awards for his writing and photography from the Outdoor Writers Association of America, Southeastern Outdoor Press Association, and the Association for Conservation Information.
Spencer is a trained forester and wildlife manager and is recognized as a leading authority on trapping, turkey hunting and waterfowl hunting.
