The Lee/Stowe double-sided trough showing signatures and date
Name/Title
Ben Lee and Lewis Stowe double-sided trough call
Entry/Object ID
PTC004A0021
Description
The trough call was first popularized by Ray Chisholm. Ben Lee sought his blessing to sell his own rendition of it, the "Super Hen." Ben Lee obtained the aluminum strips for the Super Hen from callmaker Lewis Stowe. The two men apparently then worked together to develop a double-sided trough call by attaching a small strip of slate to the spine of the call. A call signed by both men and dated "Aug 75" went to callmaker Rick Powell after the passing of Stowe. While neither man decided to commercialize this call broadly, Quaker Boy founder Dick Kirby later adapted that principle to the call he dubbed "Double Trouble."
