VTC001A0006Description
Bridgeport Gun Implement (BGI) Co. was an outdoor supply merchant whose catalog would have been much anticipated by hunters in the late 1800s. While earlier ads no doubt exist, the earliest we have documented is an 1882 BGI catalog. That has earned the two piece style of this wood and horn suction call "the BGI Yelper." A wooden mouthpiece, often of purpleheart (rosewood) screwed into a thin section of horn bell. Many other sporting goods dealers advertised it through the early 1900s. Many of the calls still in existence bear tooth marks on the mouthpiece and/or have chipping to the horn, but all are excellent relics of turkey hunting history. Several sizes of calls exist, with the length of the mouthpieces differing, as well as size of the bell (consider the natural differences in horn). The wooden mouthpiece sections also have decorative rings in various patterns.Collection
