Curtis Terrell is 61 years old as of May 2026. He has been a bricklayer and maintenance mechanic. His hobbies include call making; hunting (he especially likes Fall turkey hunting with dogs), and gardening.
Terrell’s call making company name is Old Pro Turkey Calls. Terrell derived his company name from the title of a book he enjoyed reading, Old Pro Turkey Hunter by Gene Nunnery. He started making calls around 1985 in his hometown of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and is still in the same location.
Multiple people inspired and influenced Terrell throughout his call-making journey. 1) Ves Kyle, a fellow turkey hunter and good friend who introduced him to making the old-timey cow horn yelper. They spent many a day making and testing different woods and styles for friction calls and scratch boxes. 2) Doug Camp (Camp Callers) was a huge influence on Terrell’s call making. He worked for Doug, selling and demonstrating calls at the NWTF shows for about six years. 3) Jerry Antley (Cedar Hill Game Calls) was also a huge influence on his call making. He worked for Jerry for many years, selling and demonstrating calls. 4) Earl Mickel (Author, Turkey Callmakers Past and Present) for introducing him to a lot of different custom calls and encouraging him in his call making. 5) Cline Barton, a dear friend and cabinet maker who helped Terrell learn more about woodworking, which has helped him to this day with his call making skills.
Types of calls Terrell has made/makes include:
-Single-sided and double-sided scratch boxes
-Turpin style boxes
-Turtle shell slate calls
-Wingbone calls made from actual turkey wing bones.
-Kenny Morgan reproduction call (made with special permission).
-cow horn yelper
