Darrin Dawkins is 60 Years old as of March 2026 and was born on August 10, 1965. He is a lifelong resident of Rock Hill, SC. He has been happily married to the love of his life (Robin) since June 26, 1987. The couple has one son, Josh. Josh and his wife, Kristen, have given Dawkins two grandchildren: Neely June and Sawyer Rae.
Dawkins started doing Auto Body work right after graduating from high school and continued for 35 Years. He stepped away from that on the last day of March 2020, and April 1st just happened to be the opening day of turkey season. In his retirement, he has enjoyed life and is living it to the fullest.
He started turkey hunting and killed his first turkey in the fall of 1989. It was a hen, which was legal in the fall season in South Carolina. He didn’t have anyone to teach him about turkey hunting, so he set out on my own. That led to his interest in turkey calls. He bought a box call from K-mart, and that’s what he used until he made a Wingbone to sound like a hen I had heard on the land that he hunted. After listening to turkeys as often as possible, he wasn’t satisfied with the box he had, so he decided to make his own.
That’s where it all began for Dawkins as a callmaker. Several years later, Ray Berryhill wrote the book about Neil Cost. Dawkins called Neil, and that led him to the greatest friendship a man could ask for with Mr. Lamar Williams, a Cost protege. Dawkins and Williams met in person after Williams recommended that Dawkins be a vendor at the Unicoi Custom Call Show.
The two became fast friends and have remained steadfast friends. Dawkins credits Williams with being one of the finest human beings ever, turkey calls aside!
Dawkins has made nearly every type of turkey call: Box, Pot, Longbox, Shorty Paddle, Single Side, Scratch Box, Turpin/Dawkins, Tube, Yelper, Wingbone. He mainly makes Double Side, Single Side, Paddle, and Pot Calls now. He is most proud of the innovation in the calls that are my unique designs.
