A season with the wild turkeyDescription
Illumination in the Flatwoods by Joe Hutto was published by Lyons & Buford in 1995. Joe Hutto, a trained naturalist penned this award winning classic after obtaining a couple clutches of eggs from nests that had been destroyed. Hutto would go on to hatch the eggs and allow the young poults to imprint on him. He essentially became the mother hen and his experience would open windows that few had ever seen into. Illumination in the Flatwoods would go on to be turned into a PBS documentary appropriately titled My Life as a Turkey. Hutto's work with wild turkeys is probably his best known achievement but he would also find himself living amongst Mule Deer, Big horn sheep and Wood Ducks. Work that would also produce some great literature. Hutto is also an accomplished wildlife artist which is something the reader will easily see with his illustrations throughout Illumination in the Flatwoods.Context
