Jeff McKamey is 65 years old as of Febuary 2026. He has been in the automobile business for many years. His call-making company's name is Twisting Creek Calls. McKamey began making calls in Ooltewah, Tennessee, in the early 1980s, in the garage of his house, displacing the area where his wife’s car was parked. He still lives in Ooltewah in the same house, but has now built a dedicated shop for making calls… and his wife now has her garage back!
Initially, McKamey wanted to make a call himself so he could call a turkey in with it. He recalls, “I called different callmakers and pestered them for any guidance and advice to get me started. There’s a great brotherhood of guys, and many of them were willing to share bits of info with me here and there about making boxes. Friends hunted with me, and then they wanted a call I made, and eventually, word of mouth got me into the hobby at a larger level than I ever dreamed of. From the help I always received from the “brotherhood of callmakers,” I have always strived to give back as I received to new callmakers.”
The single most important mentor and influence on McKamey’s callmaking was Marlin (Don) Watkins. The two spent endless hours working together and sharing information along the way. “His help was priceless to me,” said McKamey.
McKamey has always built a Cost-style box call with a solid hewn body. He has made three different models: Double-sided Short boxes, One-Siders, and Longboxes. He has been honored with many awards, including the NWTF's Gibson Award in 2013 and 2015, Don Chancey Award in 2015, and Neil Cost Award (Champion of Champions) in 2016, 2017, and 2018. He was inducted into the inaugural class of the NWTF Callmakers Hall of Fame in 2023, and he is one of only a few honored with induction into the NWTF's Tennessee Turkey Hunter Hall of Fame.Create Date
