Description

Similar to the original sawn-and-glued style of double sided box call that Gibson patented, Ben Lee would offer such a call that was stylistically like the Lynch World Champion. Lee's Champion Gobble Box, model 201, was offered. While one variant of this call had no wording on the grooved siderails, ones that did have wording generally had both sides designed to offer hen calls, despite the name of the box. The box came with eye screws like a Lynch World Champion as well, and with a rubber band connecting them, could produce a gobble. However, one rare variant of this call had different wording, with one side specifically tuned to produce gobbler calls. The wording on the sides of this call were as follows: "Old Hen For Spring Hunting" and "Young Gobble For Fall Yelping and Challenging Gobble For Spring." Of two examples of this rarer variant we have seen, both were stamped inside the body with "The Original Gobbler Box." This is an exact match to a stamp obtained by collector Brent Rogers-a nice piece of history. Of note, this variant also seems to have a larger countersunk finish washer and screw on the paddle than other Lee's Champion Gobble Boxes.
