VTC001A0021Description
While Neil Cost is best known for his box and paddle calls, like many other callmakers he experimented with and made other types of calls. One such with the Original Flat Slate, also called the "bootheel slate" due to its shape, or sometimes referred to as the single slate. This piece of slate was held in the palm of one's hand to create a sound chamber, and was especially known for soft and seductive turkey talking. His scratched lines on the slate surface show his precise measurements, and Colonel Bruce Elliott received from Cost a Pattern for his slate. Cost made strikers with a mule corn head that have become extremely collectible. The Goose Bone striker was just that-a snow goose radius bone mounted in the cob. The "Swizzel Stick" was a wood dowel inserted completely through the cob. Also pictured is an original mailing box from "The Gobbler Shop" which contained a note to Bruce from Cost.Collection
