Description

Penn's Woods catered to turkey hunters with calls of all styles, including friction calls. Box calls have been around since the 1800s, with Henry Gibson eventually patenting one in 1897. While M.L. Lynch calls are better known and were widely used, Gibson is the first we can accurately verify as using sawn-and-glued construction. This was a much more time- and resource-efficient way to make a large number of calls than hand-hewing a box call base. This Penn's Woods Waterproof Wizard was designed with a permanent waterproof surface adhered to the striking surface on the side rails of the call and on the underside of the paddle. This weatherproofed the call and removed the need to condition it.
