Perfection Turkey Calls Wood StrikerEntry/Object ID
PTC005A0005Description
Perfection Turkey Calls catered to turkey hunters with calls of all styles, including friction calls. One style of friction call, dating back to at least the late 1800s, is the peg and slate call. An instrument referred to as a peg, or "striker," is used to strike (scrape) across a conditioned (most often sanded) surface, such as slate or glass. This method produces a turkey-like vocalization. Strikers are commonly made of wood, and Perfection offered many different strikers, including the two pictured "Wood Strikers," which actually represent different constructions. One is a two-piece striker with a striker head that provides some weight and balance to the wooden dowel used to strike the call. The other is a one-piece striker, in this case, a piece of laminated wood turned on a lathe. Grooving at the top of the striker head often provided a point for attaching a lanyard, connecting the striker to the call.Collection
