Description

The Peters Cartridge Company produced some very famous and sought after sporting art during the company’s long duration, both before and after their merger with Remington. It was one of the great American ammunition manufacturers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Founded at Kings Mills, Ohio by Gershom Moore Peters, the company was purchased by Remington Arms (who was owned at that time by DuPont) in 1934. Although manufacturing at the legacy Peters plant in Kings Mills stopped in 1944, Peters as a brand would continue to appear until at least 1960. By the mid-1960s, Remington gradually replaced Peters and REM-UMC headstamps with the familiar R-P (Remington-Peters) headstamp that is still used today. Therefore, Peters products have gained great popularity with collectors. This envelope featuring a wild turkey is typical of the colorful stationery supplied to their distributors in the early 20th century.
