Description

Dick Kirby was a passionate turkey hunter as much as-if not even moreso-than he was a legacy callmaker. Kirby would pursue the wild turkey across many states each season, and before his untimely passing, he recorded an amazing 61 Grand Slams over nearly 30 years. Kirby had worked out a deal with the legendary Neil D. Cost to reproduct his boat paddle turkey calls, and it was one of those calls used to complete his 27th Grand Slam. The call was cedar over mahogany made 2/18/04, and is clearly marked "Reproduction of Neil D. Cost Boat Paddle 2004 Custom Crafted and Handtuned by Dick Kirby." The paddle has his signature strutting gobbler sketch, and on the sideboard he recorde, "Used Dec 2, Okeechobee, Fla to take 27th consecutive Grand Slam 2008 Dick Kirby." It also has Cost's signature Gobbler stamp and his "Approved by Neil D. Cost" signature stamp, used by Kirby on his reproduction Cost calls. The call is sheathed in a custom leather sheath by Gayle Robinson, with "DICK" on side And "KIRBY" on the other, and the front spine of the sheath celebrates "27 GRAND SLAMS." The belt side of the sheath has maker Robinson's handwritten note, "Good Luck on your 28th Gayle Robinson."
