Description
Southland pot calls remain highly sought after by turkey hunters, judging by the steadily rising sales prices from online auction platforms.
Four Southland pots are pictured here: one with a plastic base and three with wooden bases. The oldest model is a new old stock Slate Caller SL10, which had a 3-inch plastic base and a single hole in the slate surface. It was paired with a two-piece striker, consisting of a grooved wooden head (note that a lanyard could be attached from the pot call lanyard tab to the groove) and an acrylic striking rod. There are two glass calls: a Cherry Super Bronze (with bronzed glass, meaning bronze oxides added to the glass give it a warm, brown hue) and a Pro Glass in a purpleheart pot. There is also a copper-surfaced pot. A striker type more typical of later Southland pots is shown on the right in the photos.
