Description

The Education of a Turkey Hunter by William Frank Hanenkrat was published by Winchester Press in 1974. Edited and with an introduction by Frank T Hanenkrat and illustrations by J.M. Roever. William Frank Hanenkrat was a devoted student of the wild turkey who worked alongside Henry S. Mosby for a few years as a game manager, learning the techniques that would shape future wild turkey management practices. Hanenkrat was also a turkey call maker who produced a well-known call, the "Old Master Turkey Call." In The Education of a Turkey Hunter, Hanenkrat takes the reader, chapter by chapter, through his upbringing and education as a turkey hunter. A true "Old School" turkey hunter, Hanenkrat tells the story of his life as a turkey hunter in a way that makes the reader feel as if he is sitting across the old kitchen table, sharing a cup of coffee. This book, set just after restoration efforts had begun, is a must-read for anyone interested in a first-hand look at the beginnings of modern turkey hunting.
