The Old Pro Turkey Hunter is A Portals Book, privately published by the author in 1980. Artwork and illustrations were done by Norman C miller. Author Gene Nunnery was an early Mississippi call maker and a respected businessman and outdoorsman from Meridian, Mississippi. Nunnery's love for the outdoors and entrepreneurial spirit led him to be one of the first Mississippi turkey hunters to sell calls commercially and to develop a popping bug known as the "Bar Nun Popper." A fishing lure that was a sought-after tool for those who loved to fish for Bream. Contrary to what many believe, Nunnery did not portray himself as an Old Pro Turkey Hunter with this book, but instead told the story of the old-time turkey hunters who taught him how to turkey hunt and, most importantly, how to respect the wild turkey. Nunnery's stories are told in a way that draws the reader into the world of a generation of turkey hunters who could have easily played a role in the downward trend of turkey populations, but instead chose to give the bird the upper hand by hunting by a strict code of fairchase. Stories that have shaped many of today's turkey hunters and proven that Mr. Gene was, and is in fact, The Old Pro Turkey Hunter.Context
Stories set in the South about Old School Turkey hunters who shaped the author as a hunter.Collection
