Description

The Wild Turkey in Virginia by Henry S. Mosby and Charles O. Handley was published by Pitman-Robertson Projects-- Division of Game Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries, Richmond, Virginia in 1943. In 1939, Henry S Mosby began his career as a field biologist studying wild turkeys for the Virginia Commission of Game and Fisheries. While working on wild turkey research, he completed his doctorate at the University of Michigan in 1941. Mosby's work with the wild turkey would essentially become his dissertation and, in large part, the book, The Wild Turkey in Virginia. Alongside Handley, he would put together what many consider to be the seminal study of the wild turkey and the foundation for its restoration and subsequent research. With chapters on history, diseases, habitat, hunting, and so much more, this book is a must-have for anyone wanting to learn about the early days of wild turkey research. Mosby would play such a vital role in the birth of wild turkey research that the NWTF would eventually name an award after him. The National Wild Turkey Federation's Henry S. Mosby Award remains the pinnacle of awards for many biologists who study this grand bird.

Context

A landmark study of the wild turkey that served as a basis for its restoration.
