Call maker Walter Winterbottom (1913-1991) got his start in callmaking after a 1968 turkey calling contest he witnessed in Eminence, MO. Winterbottom asked the contest winner, Dan Searcy (a talented box call maker), to examine his call, and that set Winterbottom on his callmaking journey. Winterbottom is recognized for his part in the "Fence Post" longbox origin story, and also for his highly decorative folk art box calls. The Eminence area has several good examples of such illustrations of local outdoor and hunting scenes on their calls, with Winterbottom's being coveted by collectors.Collection
