Description

Lid and top of stoneware churn are dark brown. Bottom of churn is cream colored. Small molded handle on either side of churn. Raised lip on lid 1” from outer edge. Numeral 4 above maple leaf Western Stoneware mark on side on the bottom half. Long wooden handle with paddle on the end. A hole in each of four rounded points of paddle which is notched to make it solid.

Western Stoneware Co. merged with Monmouth by 1906. Internet search revealed a crock with maple leaf design circa 1890. Goantique.com sale price in 2011 was $195. Purchased for $100 with money donated by Conrad Wayne Ware of Cedar Falls, Ia.
