in Master bedroom (AI) This piece is an antique slop jar (sometimes called a slop pail or waste jar), which was a standard component of a Victorian-era bedroom washstand set.
Before indoor plumbing was common, a bedroom would have a wooden washstand equipped with an entire ceramic set. While the large pitcher and basin were used for washing your face and hands, this covered jar had a much less glamorous—but entirely necessary—job.
