last meeting were read by the
secretary.
The Pres then introduced
to the meeting, Mr J. O. Miller Jr,
who in a characteristic manner talked
to us on various subjects. By this
time, the pangs of hunger began to be
felt, and many a sly glance, was
made towards the covered baskets
standing around. At the conclusion
of his remarks, dinner being in order
our appetites quickened by the ride
and this pure mountain air, were soon
appeased by the contents of those
baskets, which were found to ~~contain~~
be a feast of good things.
The orator of the day, Mr John
Miller, of New Burgh, not putting in
an appearance, being, as I afterward
learned in a letter from him, detained
by sickness, we all suffered a great
disappointment.

But the Pres found excellent
speaking talent among those present
and ~~the~~ it was soon called to
the front. After the sec had
read the death record for the year,
and made some remarks, the
Pres called on Capt Price of the
U. S. A. for an address. And
we are assured from his Patriotic
remarks, that he would be among
the first to respond to the call
of his country, if his services
should ever be needed in her
defence.
The Rev. Mr. Erskin was
then called on, and responded
in a happy address, ending with
a good old Scottish toast
"Here's to you & your folks
Us and our folks" &c
