the Bull family for his text; from
which I do not think it is intended
to be inferred that he preached a
sermon, but that he administered to
the members of the family present
a very palatable dose of flattery.
Of course I do not positively say
so; a careful study of the text of
the memorandum renders the in-
ference probable. After Victor M. Drake
the next speaker had concluded, of
whose ideas likewise I am un-
fortunately unable to record any-
thing, it was proceeded to the elect-
ion of officers for the next year. Sam-
uel Bull was elected Pres. in the
place of Crawford Bull, Harrison
Mills, vice president in the place of
Prof R. H. Bull, and Robt. M. Jackson
secretary in the place of Peter E. Miller.
These gentlemen who go out of office were
elected in 1873. The other officers

were re-elected. Mr. Drake then
read Whittier's centennial hymn.
The Goshen Cornet band was pres-
ent, and several times during the
day furnished us with music,
a kind of entertainment we all most
unfeignedly enjoy. For this, after
the members of the bands themselves, we
are indebted to our efficient Exe-
cutive Committee. The Rev. gentlemen
Messrs Beattie and Staats who had
favored us with addresses were then
elected honorary members of the
family. The singing of the doxology
and a benediction pronounced
by the Rev. Mr. Beattie closed the ex-
ercises of the day.
