My dearest Miss Rachel.
I just got your letter and feel — o so sorry for you! Miss Farrington once asked me: "Fräulein if I should die will you come to Rachel?" but that was not this time I was in Lakewood.
Now dearest can I be of some help to you? I would do everything for you.
I am leaving Thorndale for good next Thursday the 21st of August and could come straight to you.
Mrs. Thorne made up her mind to go to Winter Harbor with her nurse and took Baby along with her. Charlotte is with her aunt and I stay here only because the dressmaker cannot finish my dresses—which have all to be changed—because my figure changed.—before next Wednesday.
Then I should have gone perhaps for two weeks to a cheap boarding place on the ...share and would have stayed till the first of Oct. in New York or somewhere.
I am very well and need no change. So just let me know. O if I could only fly to you! Where will dear Miss Farrington be buried? In Fishkill?
Please write with lead pencil, Perhaps I could come sooner, the dressmaker could fit and send me my clothes.—
Write directly.
Your true friend
Clara Voelkel.
