Acrostic. (Subject.) Upon health.
Ebenezer is thy christian name
Betimes take care friend of thy mortal frame
Each day get up before the rising sun
Nor clog thy stomach when thou dost lie down
Every morning wash, face, head, and ears
Zealously use means to prolong thy years
Exercise moderate is good unto all
Remember immoderate overflows gall.
Bile troubles thee, correct it soon thou must
Upon thy vitals flows like yellow rust.
Let soups mush & roast meat be thy food
Lo! oysters clams will sweeten nerves & blood.
Wrote for my young friend the 15th day of the Eighth Month 1812. Thos. Thomson of Thomas M.D. Lily.
