Thursday Thank you Bart- them are kind words and I do appreciate them. It is indeed unfortunate that my temporary indisposition became so magnified for the bare truth of the matter is that I was not dangerously or seriously ill- a mere digestive revolution induced or provoked by the residue of a cold with which I had struggled for two weeks. So far as being the "most important" individual in this happy hamlet- I am sure that such a definition is a gross exaggeration albeit I have been at times charged with being so in my own estimation. I am conscious of and I deeply appreciate the confidence that is reposed in me- the many little things upon which dependence is placed upon me to perform but I do not count these as a measure of great importance or an indication of indispensibility- it is merely that these small tasks have found rest upon my tender shoulders and surcease thru my humble efforts. You will recall Mr. Stearns's motto- "If I can be useful to the least of my flock without being a bore to those of superior discernment, I shall feel that I have served well" or more appropriate words of similar import. Yesterday's report was that Mary had not recovered her neckless- I shall institute a further search. I wanted you to know that I did really appreciate your telephone call and your letter but at the same time I regret that I so unnecesarily alarmed you. Sincerely, Elliott
