Edmund Llewellyn Bull
West Point Class of 1903 (Douglas MacArthur's class)
Born NY Appointed from NJ
Commissioned in the Infantry
Morro Expedition to the Philippines 1903-05 ----------- 21st INF.
The packing crate, which is pretty obviously
heavy Filipino manufacture for ocean shipment,
is stencilled "L. E. Bull Vancouver Barracks Wash."
That brought him back to the States. The next
stencilling (on top) reads "LIEUT L. E. BULL
West Point, New York" and directed the box to USMA.
Tactical Department, West Point 1907-1911
Modern Language Department, West Point, 1915-1919
Whether he left the packing crate behind in 1911 or
1919 is problematic. On one or the other of those
tours of duty (probably the second, when he would have
higher ranking), he left the crate behind for the
very obvious reason that it put the weight of his
goods above the amount the Army would move and he
would have had to pay to ship it. Other residents
of Quarters 25 Thayer Road seem to have agreed, for
the crate stayed in the basement there until 1985, when
the occupant needed the space more than the woodbox that
the crate had become. Instead of going to the dump,
the crate moved to the other end of the alley and into
the basement of Quarters 35. .... From there to Middletown.
Retired as Lieutenant Colonel 1930 (having retired for
disability in 1919). Details in this Academy obituary.
