THE ELECTRIC WREATH NO. 25.
THE DAYS OF OTHER YEARS
A Poem written on the occasion of the last Bull picnic.
Not far from where the Wallkill flows,
As all the happy Country knows,
There is an ancient house of stone
That seems to speak of years now gone
It has its name from other days,
Still known to minds in different ways,
Its place and name had spread afar,
Before the Revolution's war.
High on an eminence full near,
Of its fair fame we now can hear;
An annual picnic can proclaim,
Associations of its name.
History's page has told the tale,
Where scenes of interest did prevail;
When through the groves and wood lands round,
Was heard the roving Indian's sound.
A Valley spreads with beauty far,
And on it shines the evening star;
On its green fields the sun beams shine,
And flowers of memory combine.
Enchantment's beauty spreads around
This known and cultivated ground,
And through the day and oft at night
Appear its scenes of splendor bright.
A Church and cemetery near
To all the people round are dear,
And places of a wide renown
Are Otter Creek and Neelytown.
Press on Improvement and proclaim
The story of its place and fame;
Eager's History can unfold
Events not in this poem told.
