Dear Bob:
With respect to tax exemption of the Bull Family Association, my idea has been to achieve its recognition as an organization, gifts to which are deductible for personal Federal Income Tax purposes, thus helping to swell our contributions. However, the matter seems to have translated itself into filing to exempt the Association itself from corporate Federal Income Taxes. As to this, I do not suppose we have ever filed any returns whatsoever. Your letter of November 7th suggests applying for exemption under Sec. 101 (9) as a club. If it is a club, contributions to it are presumably not exempt, so I am wondering what purpose this would serve.
Sincerely,
E. Myron Bull
