THE WILLIAM BULL AND SARAH WELLS FAMILY ASSOCIATION
INCORPORATED
"STONE HOUSE"
HAMPTONBURGH, ORANGE COUNTY, NEW YORK
April 10, 1951
To the Members of:
THE WILLIAM BULL & SARAH WELLS FAMILY ASSOCIATION, INC.
You will recall that last spring the Association undertook
the major operation of installing a new heating system in the Stone
House. This was an expensive undertaking, but an essential one,
because of previously existing conditions of dampness and sweat
due to the nature of the structure. It seemed imperative that
the house be made not only habitable but reasonably comfortable if
it was to be properly maintained for association purposes. This
objective has been successfully accomplished. The cost amounted
to $3,789 of which about $900 was generously contributed by
members. It was necessary to appropriate $2,300.23 from the
accrued income on our endowment fund. The balance was drawn from
our current checking account reducing it so that it is now only
$314.62.
Following this undertaking, considerable damage was
sustained by the heavy wind storm of November 25th last which
caused widespread damage in the Orange County area and was in fact
of hurricane intensity. Trees were blown down, the garage shifted
on its foundation and considerable damage done to the slate roof
of the house.
This latter item must be repaired promptly to avoid still
further trouble and the estimated cost of this repair is $342.95,
which your officers believe to be the best figure obtainable.
It is a very disagreeable duty to have to ask the members
for special contributions so soon after our last appeal but,
under the foregoing unusual circumstances, there is no alternative
except to again and further deplete our endowment fund and this
latter course of action would certainly not be in the best interests
of our Association.
Very truly yours,
THE WILLIAM BULL AND SARAH WELLS
FAMILY ASSOCIATION, INC.
E. MYRON BULL, TREASURER.
