Bull Stone House
Campbell Hall -
Dear Mr. Brown -
At Corinna’s request, (she is your mother I think?) I’m sending you some genealogical information re: Ben’s family. I was gone all winter until April 8th - & am only now getting around to re-reading some past unanswered letters. I did not have any useful information with me - & then completely forgot her request.
Ben’s grandmother, Martha
Bull was the daughter of Ebenezer Bull and Jane Pearsall - (2nd wife) She was born Oct 6 - 1839 - And married Benjamin W. Craft (1st) - Oct 2nd 1860. (I’d better make a chart on separate piece of paper.)
She inherited the Pembroke table in the hall of the Stone House. And then Aunt Laura inherited it - and when she moved to Orange Co. - "stored" it at the Stone House. It has never in the yearly anniversaries been acknowledged as a gift - but at any rate Ben + I decided it should stay there and it’s nice to know it has been refinished. It originally belonged to Phoebe Sands - 1st wife of Ebenezer Bull the first.
There are several small items which, if you’d care to have them - should be in the "attic" of the
Stone House - some daguerreotype of Martha Bull; Samuel Weeks (husband of Anna Bull); and Wm. Pearsall - (probably brother or nephew of Jane Pearsall?) Also a Bull family coat of arms (probably done by Anna Craft - daughter of Martha B.) - Which if you don’t need or have a place for - you might be able to auction off at the Bull family picnic - for a small amount. Sadly Ben was the only ultimate descendant of Martha Bull and Benjamin Craft. - And he had no children of his own. (2 step children) - And I’m "awash" in things. (Haven’t started on the attic yet.)
Please advise - if you’d like me to send on the above items.
Sincerely,
Betty Craft
I’m sending you the pages from the old bible - as a more useful thing -
Martha + Benjamin had 7 children. Of those - only 2 married.
Harvey - Ben’s father - Ben only child
Edward - no children -
If there isn’t room for "Wm Pearsall" - perhaps there are some heirs of Jane Pearsall who would like them -
There are also some old photo albums of old picnic "tableaux" of Sarah Wells and Indians etc. - or does everyone have them? -
P.S. - What was the appraised value of the Pembroke table? (I’m curious ??? - should have had the tax deduction !!) -
Please remember me to your Mother -
