Dear Sisters
Now there will be a little more regularity to our letters I trust, as I have received yours (Sissie & Sue) before writing this. Two or three times lately I have sent one in the morning and received one in the afternoon — my first letter you have received I presume as you mentioned the Sack pattern. I wish you would send it to us (Sammy & I of course) have given up all hopes of coming until warm weather at any rate we want to see you all very much it seems like a year or more since we have seen any of you I want mother to come down and go with me to get furniture her health is poor and it always agreed with her to be in New York now I want her to come without fail Sammy says father must come too he often wishes for him evenings to aid his opinion — he is reading a book called “A glance at the sciences” — Mother has just come up with her Jimmy & Graham almanac “… says quarterly meeting is the 21st of next month now Mother can come before I play music after meeting. Fanny has had real hard times this is last seventh day Fanny & I went with him to look at a house. I think it was nice looking the rooms to let were on the 2 & 3 floors & small rooms at that with very low ceiling Fanny said my hat almost reached it on the 3 floor where the kitchen is rent 278 dollars no gas we are to have the gas put in here next month have all the rooms Alexander had in one room besides we are going to keep those stoves one told to stand a room other unless they don’t want to move, I expect we could get carpets a little cheaper now than the first of May. Do you like yours? I went to Mrs. Why meeting yesterday saw cousin Elisa she said Jenny was out there day before and spent the day & Charlie Horton married? Eddy Russell was here to tea and spent the evening some time last week Mr. Powell was here to an oyster supper the largest oysters I ever saw 3 cents apiece for them two kinds you eat steaks off. Frank has been & gave me a sweet kiss for Said Line’s I don’t like what has father reference to. Fanny says Amphibious means ‘What can’t live in water & die on land’ look at the matter Jane H. is staying home ‘broke up’ I think…”
Left margin (vertical):
“Fanny says Amphibious means what can’t live in water & die on land look at the matter Jane H. is staying home broke up I think”
[Vertical note in left margin:]
We made our bed in the study & find it much better to have that room to ourselves it is much warmer and more convenient and gives us a good light to write by.Relationships
